Gary Metzger - Preparation Classes

The following Classes were prepared and presented by Brother Gary Metzger as his personal work and ministry.  The Sealed Portion was not used in the making of these classes.

Preparation Class #1

Gary Metzger
October 5, 2018

Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.” – Psa 50:2

The Call to Bond and Covenant
And the Lord could not withhold; and he covenanted with Enoch; and sware unto him with an oath, that he would stay the floods; that he would call upon the children of Noah; and he sent forth an unalterable decree, that a remnant of his seed should always be found among all nations, while the earth should stand.                       Gen 7:58                                                                                       3479 BC

And God made a covenant with Noah, and said, This shall be the token of the covenant I make between me and you, and for every living creature with you, for perpetual generations;

And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant I made unto thy father Enoch.        Gen 9:18,21                 2510 BC

Which in chiastic form places the focus on the union of heaven and earth with joy, not our obedience.

MINE EVERLASTING COVENANT

EMBRACE THE TRUTH & LOOK UPWARD

                        ZION LOOK DOWNWARD

(Gen 9:22,23)       HEAVENS SHAKE WITH GLADNESS  The fullness of Joy: spirit and

EARTH TREMBLE WITH JOY                     element inseparably connected.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY COMES DOWN                               D&C 90:5e

POSSESS THE EARTH AND HAVE PLACE

MINE EVERLASTING COVENANT WITH ENOCH

And remember the covenant which I make with thee (Abram); for it shall be an everlasting covenant; and thou shalt remember the days of Enoch thy father;          Gen 13:13        2218 BC

And thus, having been approved of God, he (Melchizedek) was ordained an high priest after the order of the covenant which God made with Enoch.                          Gen 14:27

For God having sworn unto Enoch and unto his seed with an oath by himself; that every one being ordained after this order and calling should have power, by faith, to break mountains, to divide the seas, to  dry up waters, to turn them out of their course.                  Gen 14:30

(“And men having this faith, coming up unto this order of God, were translated and taken up into heaven. (Gen 14:32)

Even though it was about 1260 years from Zion’s translation and those in Enoch’s day (3479 – 2218), their faith was firm and their obedience rewarded. So will ours be as we focus on the covenant with Enoch.

D&C 43:3b      To bind yourselves to act in all holiness before me.
D&C 77:2d      Prepare and organize yourselves by a bond or everlasting covenant that cannot be broken.
D&C 81:4a      be bound together by a bond and covenant that cannot be broken by transgression…
4d        Bind yourselves by this covenant,
D&C 101:1a    ...the order, which I commanded to be organized and established, to be an united order for
the benefit of my church, and for the salvation of men until I come.

Warnings of failing the covenant required:

“Wherefore a commandment I give unto you, to prepare and organized yourselves by a bond or everlasting covenant that cannot be broken. And he who breaketh it shall lose his office and standing in the church, and shall be delivered over to the buffetings of Satan until the day of redemption. – D&C 77:2d,3a

“…bound together by a bond and covenant that cannot be broken by transgression except judgment shall immediately follow, in your several stewardships.” – D&C 81:4a

“And the soul that sins against this covenant and hardeneth his heart against it, shall be dealt with according to the laws of my church, and shall be delivered over to the buffetings of Satan until the day of redemption.” –D&C 81:5b

“Verily, I say unto you, concerning your brethren who have been afflicted and persecuted, and cast out from the land of their inheritance, I, the Lord, have suffered the affliction to come upon them, wherewith they have been afflicted in consequence of their transgressions.” – D&C 98:1a

“Behold, I say unto you, there were jarrings, and contention and envyings, and strifes, and lustful and covetous desires among them; therefore by these things they polluted their inheritances. – D&C 98:3a

“any man …, shall break the covenant with which ye are bound, he shall be cursed in his life, and shall be trodden down by whom I will, for I, the Lord, am not to be mocked in these things;  - D&C 101:1d

“Therefore, inasmuch as you are found transgressors, ye cannot escape my wrath in your lives; inasmuch as ye are cut off by transgression, ye cannot escape the buffetings of Satan until the day of redemption. …if any man among you, of the order, is found a transgressor, and repenteth not of the evil, that ye shall deliver him over to the buffetings of Satan, and he [Satan] shall not have power to bring evil upon you. –D&C 101:1f 2a

By delivering the evildoer over to Satan, that influence was no longer among the saints. This is  likened to Achan and how all of Israel was judged for his sin. When he was cast out, Satan would then have no power over them. The Lord said, “neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you” (Joshua 7:12)

Remember the vision of the Redemption of Zion by Alfred White, received in 1885. The people ran to escape the judgment of the Holy Spirit by going outside of the sanctified ring.

Our preparation in Trusting the Lord, likened unto:

1) To walk up Mt. Moriah with Abraham and Isaac.

2) To march around Jericho with Joshua.

3) To walk towards the sea in the desert with Moses.

4) To face the giant Goliath with David.

5) To be cast into the fiery furnace with the 3 Israelites.

6) To enter the lion’s den with Daniel.

7) To walk into Jerusalem for the plates with Nephi.

8) To watch over the king’s sheep with Ammon.

9) To stand on Zarahemla’s walls with Samuel.

10) To pray the day before they were to die with Nephi.

Relationships Made Strong

Commandment #1

“And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.”  Mark 12:30

Commandment # 2 – Jesus taught

“This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.  Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”  John 15:12,13

Why do most Zionic endeavors fail?    RELATIONSHIPS

Contentions       Backbiting               Lies                  Envying           Offended         Anger

“Behold, I say unto you, there were jarrings, and contentions, and envyings…therefore by these things they polluted their inheritances.”  D&C 98:3A

“A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.”  Proverbs 18:19

“He that hath the spirit of contention is not of me…he stirreth up the hearts of men with anger”   3 Nephi 5:30

Strengthen:

“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”    Galatians 6:2

“For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.”  Galatians 5:13

“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”  Ephesians 4:32

“Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.”                     1 Thessalonians 5:11

“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”  James 5:16

“A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.”  Proverbs 15:1

“Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.”  Philippians 2:2

“Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.”  Philippians 2:3

Sharpen:

“Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.”  Proverbs 27:17

“But exhort one another daily, while it is called Today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.”  Hebrews 3:13

“Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus”   Colossians 1:28

“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works”  Hebrews 10:24

“And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.”  Romans 15:14

“Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.”       Proverbs 11:14

“Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established”.  Proverbs 15:22

“Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.”  Proverbs 12:1

“The ransom of a man’s life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.”  Proverbs 13:18

“A fool despiseth his father’s instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.”  Proverbs 15:5

HOW?

A.  Fulfill the baptismal covenant:

“And now, as ye are desirous to come into the fold of God, and to be called his people, and are willing to bear one another’s burdens, that they may be light;  Yea, and are willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and to stand as witnesses of God at all times, and in all things, and in all places that ye may be in, even until death, that ye may be redeemed of God, and be numbered with those of the first resurrection, that ye may have eternal life “ Mosiah 9:39,40

1) Bear one another’s burdens.

2) Mourn with those who mourn.

3) Comfort those who have need.

This is love made practical. This is covenant living. This helps repentant persons live repentant lives.  The vision that others have for me is often better than my own for myself.

B.  Accountability partners

1)  A group of individuals to counsel, confess, encourage, and walk together.

A three-fold cord is not easily broken.  “And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” Eccl 4:12

Rise up and help each other.  “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”   Amos 3:3

David and Jonathan made covenant together to care for each other. So must we. “Then said Jonathan unto David, Whatsoever thy soul desireth, I will even do it for thee.  And David said unto Jonathan, Behold, tomorrow is the new moon, and I should not fail to sit with the king at meat; but let me go, that I may hide myself in the field unto the third day at even.   If thy father at all miss me, then say, David earnestly asked leave of me that he might run to Bethlehem his city; for there is a yearly sacrifice there for all the family.   If he say thus, It is well; thy servant shall have peace; but if he be very wroth, then be sure that evil is determined by him.  Therefore thou shalt deal kindly with thy servant; for thou hast brought thy servant into a covenant of the Lord with thee; notwithstanding, if there be in me iniquity, slay me thyself; for why shouldest thou bring me to thy father?  And Jonathan said, Far be it from thee; for if I knew certainly that evil were determined by my father to come upon thee, then would not I tell it thee?   Then said David to Jonathan, Who shall tell me? or what if thy father answer thee roughly?   And Jonathan said unto David, Come, and let us go out into the field. And they went out both of them into the field.  And Jonathan said unto David, O Lord God of Israel, when I have sounded my father about tomorrow any time, or the third day, and, behold, if there be good toward David, and I then send not unto thee, and show it thee;   The Lord do so and much more to Jonathan; but if it please my father to do thee evil, then I will show it thee, and send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace; and the Lord be with thee, as he hath been with my father.   And thou shalt not only while yet I live show me the kindness of the Lord, that I die not;   But also thou shalt not cut off thy kindness from my house forever; no, not when the Lord hath cut off the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth.   So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, Let the Lord even require it at the hand of David’s enemies.”  1Samuel 20:4-16

Nathan came to King David and challenged him with a parable for his sin against Uriah. So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, Let the Lord even require it at the hand of David’s enemies.”  2 Samuel 12:1-13

2.  Example of Christ3 disciples that were taught of him in a tight relationship. We can do the same.

Jesus took only Peter, James and John when he raised the ruler of the synagogue’s daughter.  “And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.”  Mark 5:29

Jesus took Peter, James and John up on the mount of transfiguration.  “And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.”  Matthew 17:1-2

Jesus took with him Peter, James and John apart in the garden to pray.   “Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.  And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.  Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.”  Matthew 26:36-38

Achieved long-term benefits by developing a tight bond with each other

James, Cephas (Peter) and John, who seemed to be pillars.   “…And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.”  Galatians 2:9

Likewise each of us can meet together in groups of 3, strengthening each other, influenced by Christ.

GOALS

(Only suggestions, to be determined and achieved by the threesome)

We seldom reach a goal we do not seek.  The weak link in the chain breaks the blessing. Let us grow together.  Pruning hurts.

Coming up Higher / Sanctification

Creston, IA 1/2/1963 – Ministry of John the Beloved-  Wednesday Eve. prayer service
“I have been called to minister to those who are righteous and follow the commandments of God in these, the last days. Many of you have not followed the commandments as the Father would have you do. But because of fasting and prayer and obedience to the financial law and the Word of Wisdom on the part of many of you present here tonight, the Heavenly Father has granted me permission to speak to you before I take leave.”

CLOUDS OVER ZION – Ray Hugget, A vision in 1971 in Oak Grove, MO in the sanctuary during a service. He saw dark, depressing clouds that occluded most of the holy city. They represented a need to

1) Keep the Sabbath
2) Improve concept of Stewardship – total life dedication
3) Sanctity of Marriage / Teaching Children
4) Word of Wisdom – mind/body and physical appetites
5) Covenant relationship – with Christ
6) Worship with a full heart
7) Covenant by sacrifice

Come up Higher – Dream by Gary Metzger, Feb 2016

The prior night I was awakened and not let to go back to sleep. I knew I was in disobedience…That next day after work in prayer, I was told to seek Him…FIRST – (Heard same song on radio as well) I had a dream. I was arising from my sleep, and told there was a cloud outside my house. I went outside and I climbed the ladder leaning against my house into the cloud. There I found the spirit of revelation as I looked for Him, coming up higher. He was asking me to SEEK HIM-PRAY. Not just be busy for him. *

Line Upon Line – Gary Metzger, A vision in November, 2016

AFTER years of prayer about how to prepare the holy city and the people of God, at 4:00am in the morning in late November of 2016, I was awakened and given a mental image of steps reaching higher and higher to a place of blessing. To grow in obedience from the terrestrial to the celestial kingdom. This was concerning the temporal law of the celestial kingdom. The next morning at 4:00am I was awakened and immediately was shown again in vision a much clearer image of various windows; the first one having a few bold lines, and a few normal lines of text above it. The next window had the prior 6 lines of text, now all 6 in bold, and few lines of normal text above them. This continued across the page… I understood the bold lines were items we were fulfilling, and the normal text was things to work on.

I. Material Stewardship:

Storehouse principle & Tithing: (Testimony of Gary M from Nov, 1980 before hearing of the storehouse)

Oscar Case’s field was not eaten by worms as he prayed unto the lord, claiming the promise of rebuking the devourer for having paid his tithes. The worms crawled over the field and did not eat his crops.

Karen Bates grandfather experienced the same miracle as they witnessed grasshoppers eating all their neighbor’s crops. They prayed and the grasshoppers climbed up the posts, flew over their field, and began eating again in the neighbor’s field.

Parable of Talents and Equality –the principle (regardless of amount) – Give more than we have need
(Greater talents / Greater responsibility) the CASE: My brother has none:

My “talent” Amount Shared
If I have two meals $10 Give one meal, that there may be equality
If I have two pair of shoes $40 Give one pair of shoes, to have equality
If I have two coats $80 Give one coat, that there may be equality
If I have two cars $4,000 Give one car, that there may be equality
If I have two houses $80,000 Give one house, that there may be equality
Acts 4:34 For as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, and laid them down at the apostles’ feet. [Consecration of ALL Increase]
Acts 5:1-5 Ananias and Sapphira sold a possession and kept back part of the price – were judged.

The Sabbath: God’s sign

Gen 2:1-2 God rested on the seventh day from all his work

Exo 16:21-30 The Israelites gathered manna six days, and on the 6th, they gathered for 2 days. During the week, if they had increase, it spoiled by morning. But to not work on the Sabbath, the Lord made the manna last two days. It was called the “rest” (24) They laid it up until morning (25) “And Moses said, ‘Eat that today; for today is a Sabbath unto the Lord; today ye shall not find it in the field.’” (26) Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none.” (29) “Abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.”

- After our life, there is the Lord’s rest. –

The riches we lay up unto God for His rest will not spoil. The increase is to be laid up. - We labor to find God’s blessings, but we will not find them working on his day of rest. - this pattern was given right before the 10 commandments [given in Exo 20]

Exo 20:8-11 (Deu 5:14-15) (Exo 35:1-3) - The longest discussion of a commandment (4 vs).

(vs8) - Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. It takes work to remember!

(vs10) – No work – neither me, my family or servants or strangers within our gates (Exo 35:2)

(vs11) – For in six days the Lord made the heaven and the earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day; wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it. (made holy)

A Chiasm Exo 31:13

A Verily my Sabbaths ye shall keep; for it is a sign between me and you

B throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the Lord that doth sanctify you. (Ezek 20:12,    14)

C Everyone that defileth it shall surely be put to death; for whosoever doeth any work therein, that  soul  shall be cut off from among his people. 15

D Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, [holy to the Lord], whosoever doeth any work in the Sabbath day;

C’ he shall surely be put to death. (Exo 35:2) 16

B’ observe the Sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. 17

A’ It is a sign between me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

Scripture:

Exo 34:21 In earing and harvest also! No excuse for too much work.

Lev 23:30 the soul that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people. 31 Ye shall do no manner of work; it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. For all generations. 32 It shall be a Sabbath rest. You are to celebrate your sabbath from eve to eve.
Gen 1:8 Evening and the morning were the first day ( 2nd – 6th 1:11,17,21,24,33) - our life starts in darkness and we come to the light. Carnal to Spiritual.

Exo 35:3 Ye shall kindle no fire throughout your habitations upon the sabbath day.

Exo 16:29 Abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day

Neh 10:31 No buying on the Sabbath day, or on the holy day

Neh 13:15-17 Made the sabbath profane buy buying and selling of victuals and wares.

Jer 17:21 Bear no burden on the sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem.

Isa 56:2 Blessed is the man who doeth this; that keeps the sabbath from polluting it

Lev 24:8 every Sabbath, by an everlasting covenant. 25:2-4 The land shall keep a Sabbath rest unto the Lord, 26:34 then shall the land enjoy her Sabbaths

Isa 58:13,14 Turn away thy foot from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the Sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honorable; and shall honor him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words.
