The Reading for today is From RDC 27:1&2 (B of C 30:1-6)
Concerning the prophecy of these sealed records coming forth:
“1 Behold, I say unto thee, Oliver, that it shall be given unto thee that thou shalt be heard by the church in all things whatsoever thou shalt teach them by the Comforter, concerning the revelations and commandments which I have given. 2a But, behold, verily, verily I say unto thee, No one shall be appointed to receive commandments and revelations in this church excepting my servant Joseph Smith, Jr., for he receiveth them even as Moses; 2b and thou shalt be obedient unto the things which I shall give unto him, even as Aaron, to declare faithfully the commandments and revelations, with power and authority unto the church. 2c And if thou art led at any time by the Comforter to speak or teach, or at all times by the way of commandment unto the church, thou mayest do it. 2d But thou shalt not write by way of commandment, but by wisdom; and thou shalt not command him who is at thy head, and at the head of the church, for I have given him the keys of the mysteries and the revelations, which are sealed, until I shall appoint unto them another in his stead.”
Those who have held to the truth of the early revelations given to the church, were, or ought to have been expecting the Lord to raise up another seer. To be given the “keys” to bring forth those “sealed” writings. The words of Christ, through Moroni, provide additional insight into the raising up of such a seer, whenever the church has gone into apostacy. The marks of apostacy arelisted in chapter 1 of the Book of commandments verse 3:
“strayed from my ordinances”[Ceased to follow the commandments given to them from the previous seer.
“have broken mine everlasting covenant” [made baptism a formality, rather than a matter of the path to conversion. – that is baptism becomes a ritual to join “our church” rather than a starting point to become one with Christ].
“seek not to the Lord to establish his righteousness, but every man walketh in his own way”
[“I” will JUDGE what is right and wrong. “I” am the decider of truth].
“[and walketh] after the image of his own god whose image is in the likeness of the world.” [The ancient issue of wanting to be like those around us….
O Holy Father, we pray in the name of thy son Jesus, Christ to continue to loose the bands of unbelief among thy people to hear thy voice and follow that path of life given from the beginning of the world in the example of the sacrifice of thy Son, Jesus, in whose name we pray. Amen.
